Stanfield<\/span>Spring is finally here, unless it snows tomorrow.  Reminds me of the old adage about the cup of water and what you see indicating whether you\u2019re an optimist or a pessimist.  To a Rotarian, we see a glass of clean and drinkable water provided by a sustainable Rotary project.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n
\nWe are gearing up for an amazing District Conference<\/span><\/a><\/strong> this year! The one-day event is packed with dynamic speakers and informative breakout sessions.  I hope to see you on May the 4th in Carmel at the Renaissance Indianapolis North Hotel<\/span><\/a><\/strong>-we still have a few rooms left at the discounted rate through Tuesday, 4\/16.  We will have a special ceremony at dinner to honor those members with 25 plus and 50 plus years of service.  Your District Conference is for every Rotarian and your guests and family. It is not an invitation-only event.  If you are a part of the family of Rotary, this event is for you!<\/span><\/span><\/span>

\nAs I have visited our clubs this year, there has been a common concern about membership loss and low turn out for club meetings.  We have been answering that concern with area networking events called Connect the Community.  It is sponsored by Rotary and the speakers talk about how Rotary has impacted their business or career.  Please attend one of these events with a potential new member as we hold an event near you.  Connect the Community is free to your club because your District leadership wants to invest in your club\u2019s growth.  The format is replicable, and we have been able to procure new interest in Rotary in the communities that we\u2019ve held these events.  Be sure to attend an upcoming date on the DACdb District calendar! Sunday, April 14, 2024 <\/span><\/div> By: Jan Roestamadji<\/span>On Thursday, March 14, 2024, an EF-3 tornado caused widespread destruction on its pathway through East Central Indiana heading to West Central Ohio. Especially hit was Randolph County\u2019s seat of Winchester. It uprooted trees, flattened homes, businesses, churches and injured dozens of people with many miraculous stories left behind that saved the community from deaths. The destruction, however, brought this community to its knees, but an immediate influx of individuals and organizations quickly worked together to bring in much-needed food and helping hands.
\n
\nThere were over 400 homes and multiple businesses damaged or destroyed, including 3 churches and a couple of historic cemeteries. Included in these stories of destruction were family and friends of at least three area Rotary clubs: Winchester, Union City, and Portland. The shocking damage throughout the tornado\u2019s path unified these three clubs to also respond immediately. The clubs and their members started donating money and physical help.  The District\u2019s disaster relief trailer was called into action, but it was unavailable, so DG Jennifer and District 6560 put up a pledge from the District\u2019s Disaster Relief fund to match up to $8000.00 of monies that will be collected from District 6560 clubs\u2019 donations.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n
\nTo date, the District has donated $5000.00 of those dollars to match donations by Union City ($2500), Portland ($1500) and Winchester (still to vote as they\u2019ve been active in community response). As well, and to date, each of these clubs\u2019 members and some of their respective businesses have also donated just over $3000.00.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

All monetary donations are going through the Community Foundation of Randolph County, where they are the fiscal sponsor for the newly formed Long-Term Recovery Team to disburse the funds in a timely, accountable, and much-needed manner. The key words, though, are \"Long Term Recovery\". From this Team, nine subcommittees have been formed under various needs, including financial needs, communications, construction management, physical needs, emotional and spiritual needs, etc. These leaders are trained and get out into the community in a structured way. The Community Foundation of Randolph County is working with the experienced VOAD (Volunteer Organization of Active Disasters) in training and helping meet needs. Heart of Indiana United Way based in Muncie in Delaware County is also helping to support the destruction in their neighboring county.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n
\nA Facebook page and a website for the Long-Term Recovery Team of Winchester is currently being donated and set up to get the word out even further. Donations of all kinds are being accepted, even non-monetary. There is also a T-shirt sale expressing Winchester Strong and Randolph County Strong being backed by the Winchester club.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

\nWe are asking each club in District 6560 to consider donating. Whether the matching funds have all been donated or not, long term recovery within our own district is immense. Thank you all in advance for SERVING BEFORE SELF and HELPING OTHERS.                 <\/span><\/span><\/span>

Markoff<\/span>The Rotary Club of Carmel honored the memories of two very special Rotarians, Julie Shadinger, our Club President, and Tim Paramore, our long-time Club Secretary, by creating a unique event, Julie's Night Out. The members of the Rotary Club of Carmel stood tall in creating lasting memories for the students, families, and educators of Carmel Elementary and Clay Center Elementary Schools at the event. From the wonderful food at Sullivan\u2019s, to the exciting win by the Pacers over the Thunder, to the personalized presentation by Pacers Sports & Entertainments' Danny Lopez, every moment brought smiles to the faces of our special guests.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n
\nShout-outs go to our club officers, Arnold Elston, Dr. David Hollander, and Doug Williard; student host Stephon Tuitt; Rotary District 6560's DG Jennifer Stanfield and DGE Santos Salinas; Sullivan\u2019s John Stanley; and the Pacers' Rachel Widenhofer for their efforts in making this wonderful event possible.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

Participating in the ceremony were Assistant District Governor Jan Roestamadji, and Club Foundation Chair, Anita Amspaugh.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

\nBorn in 1932, Dick is a second-generation Rotarian with 70 years of combined service in the Winchester and Union City Rotary Clubs. Dick is past president of the Winchester Club. Dick was awarded the District Governor\u2019s Citation for his work on the Wheelchairs for Mexico Project, in which he personally donated 40 wheelchairs to honor his wife Mary on their 40th Wedding Anniversary.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

\nDick is an Air Force veteran and has served as a volunteer and leader of numerous civic and community philanthropic organizations.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

Sunday, April 14, 2024 <\/span><\/div> By: Lance Wonderlin<\/span>On April 8th, the Rotary Club of Westfield, Indiana was out in force at the Cool Creek Park Dark Side of the Moon Solar Eclipse event.  We cooked brats and hot dogs for the roughly 1,500 people in attendance, along with selling drinks and chips.  The weather was terrific, the music was great, the food was excellent, and a great time was had by all.  We were also able to raise over $2,000 that we\u2019ll be able to donate back to the organizations we support in the Westfield area.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>
